How to Back Up iPhone Pictures to the iCloud

As any new parent knows, your smartphone is the quickest way to snap photos of all those cute faces your baby makes. Gone are the days of getting out the digital camera, making sure the batteries are fresh, waiting for the flash and then hoping you can capture that memory in time. However, a digital camera has a memory card so your photos can be saved – how do you do the same with your iPhone so that you don’t lose these precious shots?

You should start by activating the iCloud option on your iPhone. Here’s how:

1. Go to your Settings

2. Tap on the iCloud option

3. Set your Photo Stream option to “On”

Now that your photos are being backed up, you can access them by downloading the iCloud toolbar (through iTunes) on your PC. Also, you have the option of saving the pictures to your camera roll on your phone so you can still show them to people no matter where you are, as well as copy and save them to a specified destination on your PC – as long as your computer files are being properly backed up as well!

Since the iCloud backups only begin working once you have set it up properly, how do you back up the pictures you’ve already taken on your iPhone? Simply, plug the iPhone into your PC with the cable, go to “my computer” and find the device listed on the side, as you would when you plug in a digital camera. Open your iPhone, select the photos you would like to backup, then copy and save them to the specified folder or location on your PC. Now you have these pictures saved in case something should happen to your phone. Again, make sure your computer has proper backups set up or you still run the risk of losing these photos.

The iCloud option saves your pictures (up to 1000) for 30 days so be sure to take action within that time.
